How To Determine If The Oil Of A Four Column Hydraulic Press Needs To Be Replaced?

Jun 21, 2024

To determine whether the oil (i.e. hydraulic oil) of a four column hydraulic press needs to be replaced, a comprehensive evaluation can usually be conducted through the following methods:
1. Regular sampling and testing: This is a relatively scientific method that requires regular extraction of oil samples from the hydraulic system for laboratory testing. By testing the physical and chemical performance indicators of hydraulic oil, such as viscosity, acid value, moisture content, impurity content, metal particle content, etc., compare them with the standard values recommended by new oil or manufacturers. When these indicators exceed the allowable range, it indicates that the oil has deteriorated and needs to be replaced.

2. Intuitive detection: relying on the experience of operators, using intuitive methods such as "looking, smelling, touching, and shaking" to make judgments. Observing the color of hydraulic oil, if the oil becomes noticeably black, cloudy, dirty, or emulsified (oil-water mixture appears milky white), these are signs of oil deterioration. At the same time, smell whether the oil has a pungent smell, touch whether there is an abnormal particle feeling, shake the oil sample to see whether there is a lot of foam that is difficult to dissipate, which can be used as a basis for judgment.

3. Work performance monitoring: Observe the operation performance of the hydraulic system, such as unstable system pressure, increased noise, slow action, increased leakage, etc., which may be caused by a decrease in oil performance. These phenomena are also signals indicating that hydraulic oil needs to be replaced.

4. Follow the maintenance plan: According to the recommendations of the equipment manufacturer or industry standards, hydraulic oil generally has a recommended replacement cycle. For example, some suggest replacing it once a year, and the first replacement may be done after 3 months of use. Even if the oil appears acceptable, it should be replaced at the scheduled replacement cycle to prevent potential problems.

5. Oil service life assessment: Based on the operating conditions and environmental conditions of the equipment, such as high temperature, high pressure, frequent start stop, and other harsh conditions, the service life of hydraulic oil will be shortened, requiring more frequent inspection and replacement.

By combining the above methods, the condition of the oil in the four column hydraulic press can be effectively determined, ensuring the stable operation of the hydraulic system and the long-term health of the equipment.
