What Are The Advantages Of Using A CNC Vertical Lathe To Machine Brake Discs?

Apr 08, 2026

Our CNC vertical lathes are equipped with advanced CNC systems that precisely control tool movement and cutting parameters. We offer a full range of models, allowing you to choose the appropriate machine based on the size of your brake disc. Depending on the brake disc machining process, you can choose a single-column CNC vertical lathe, a double-column CNC vertical lathe (using double-tool turning to reduce deformation caused by concentrated cutting forces, improve machining accuracy, and ensure the parallelism and flatness of the brake disc surface), or a turning and grinding integrated CNC vertical lathe.

When machining the friction surfaces of brake discs, the spindle runout accuracy of our CNC vertical lathes can be controlled within 0.005mm, ensuring a disc surface flatness error of ≤0.02mm and improving friction coefficient uniformity by 40%, fundamentally avoiding safety hazards such as brake vibration and abnormal noise.

Custom Grinding Head for CNC Vertical Lathe

The dual-column CNC vertical lathe can be equipped with a custom grinding head, enabling multiple processes such as roughing, finishing, and grinding of the brake disc in a single clamping operation, significantly reducing machining time. Equipped with a quick tool changer and a high-speed spindle reaching 1000 rpm, the CNC vertical lathe can rapidly change tools and achieve high-speed cutting, further improving production efficiency.

This CNC vertical lathe features a vertical structure with the spindle arranged perpendicular to the worktable. This design effectively reduces the working load on the spindle and bearings, improves overall machining stability, and lowers vibration and deformation during operation - making it especially ideal for processing disc-shaped parts such as brake discs.
The machine is equipped with imported Taiwan P4 precision bearings for both spindle and feed screw applications, delivering strong rigidity and consistent stability even under high-speed running conditions.

The CNC vertical lathe can be flexibly configured according to machining needs:

CNC vertical lathe chuck turret details

■ The worktable can use either a hydraulic or manual chuck, with 3/4/6 jaws and chuck sizes of 15/18/24/32 inches.

■ The turret can be vertical or horizontal, or a driven turret, with 4/8/10/12 turret positions.

CNC system classification

■ The CNC system can be selected from Siemens, Mitsubishi, Fanuc, HNC, GSK, KND, and other CNC systems to meet the machining needs of various industries.

CNC vertical lathes perform a full range of machining operations including drilling, milling and facing, easily satisfying diverse production requirements. This high versatility makes them extremely well-suited for brake disc machining applications.

These machines also handle special workpiece materials efficiently, such as high-carbon cast iron and carbon-ceramic composites, delivering stable and reliable cutting performance across different material specifications.
